Toastie Battle 11:4:20

Grilled Toastie Sandwich? Yes, please! It’s time to celebrate the UK’s first Toastie Battle!

Let’s get one thing straight about the humble Toastie, they are comfort food at it’s very best. If you’re anything like us, most of us have been chowing down on this delectable delight since childhood. It’s Crisp, gooey, cheesy… and we never need an excuse to enjoy a delicious toastie day-or-night, it’s no longer just for fussy eight-year-olds. It’s an everyman food. It’s hangover food. It can even be gourmet food.

You can customise it any way you want, fill it with oak-smoked BBQ pulled brisket, slap in some leftovers of your favourite Indian take-away or go classic with a Cheddar dripping melt …with this in mind join us in celebrating Taste and Liquor Toastie Battle on Saturday 11 April, the first street food event of its kind – in the world – in honour National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day (April 12).

Now tell us, is there such a thing as a bad toastie sandwich? We’ve always got time for one. It seems that we’re not the only one who loves a warm comforting toastie and now finally Britain’s toastie fans can rejoice as there’s a whole day to celebrate this humble tea-time treat.  In fact, here’s where to come for Birmingham’s best-grilled sandwiches.  We’re totally ready to celebrate the buttery, gooey, goodness of the classic comfort food that we all know and love.

Taste and Liquor have rounded up five best-of-the-best street food traders to battle it out to win Taste and Liquor Best Toastie Award. This will be a grilled toastie Mecca offering everyone’s favourite sandwich. There will be classic cheese and bread concoctions to adventurous experimental options; these yummy comfort foods will guarantee a solid carb overdose and the whole day will be delicious, and comes with a 100% nap guarantee.
