Taste and Liquor Birmingham Burger Month Present Rebel Chicken
If you love burgers – and chicken – as much as we do, you’re in luck! New joints dedicated to grilling, BBQ, battered and deep-fried versions of the humble burger seem like they’re springing up all over the place. Even high-end restaurants have gotten in on the action because the simple culinary equation of poultry-meets-marinate-meets-hot-coals-meets-grill can still lead to endless variations.
There are especially a lot of good burger spots in Birmingham but for Taste and Liquor Birmingham Burger Month there’s one menu that stands out from the rest of the flock that is full of flavour-flavour!
Causing a sensation when it opened in 2018, JQ’s Rebel Chicken talented cooks famously joined forces in the back kitchen of a side-street on Pitsford Street and intuitively split the difference between hipster diner food and matter-of-fact Southern bona fides rotisserie. However it’s their Rebel Burgers that are making some serious mother clucking noise!
Under-the-radar is their classic Rebel Burger (Boneless Buttermilk Chicken) and positively delicious Yard Bird Burger (Two Buttermilk Chickens stacked high with all the juicy trimmings).
We love their craggy-crusted Falafel Burger – based on the classic Middle Eastern Falafel sandwich but turned into a burger – but it’s their Rebellious Burger (which only uses the finest cuts of 28 day aged Chuck Steak & Short-Rib mince) that’s been throwing out the rule book!
With over six different variations to choose from: The Classic, The Cheese and Bacon, The Rebel Desi, The Halloumi and The Pulled Chicken you will be spoilt for choice or better yet go in and Create Your Own Burger, exactly how you want it.
The joint is also well known for serving Chicken Wings and their signature dish, the No Nonsense Rebel Chicken is pure bliss with every bite. Be sure to save room for their desserts too! It is top notch. It’s also shockingly inexpensive for a place with a dining room, open late on the weekends.
