Taste and Liquor Brum Wing Fest 2019: The Final 5 Contenders

1 DAY vs 5 TRADERS vs 1 WINNER… and here’s five chicken wing finals who’ll be contending in BRUM WING FEST 2019

Winner, winner, chicken wing dinner! Yes we said it, there is no “best” type of chicken wing. Great wings win hearts and stomachs with well-balanced flavors and quality meat regardless of whether they’re naked, dredged, sauced, or smoked. On Saturday 4 May we present the best chicken wings from Birmingham for this year’s Brum Wing Fest 2019. The Competition is fierce, but, in the end, these five distinguished themselves from the rest.

THE CONTENDERS

CONTENDER NO 1: FULLY BELLY   

DISHES

1. Drunken Polish Wings

Let’s talk wings! There Drunken Wings sit in a secret Polish Beer brine before being twice-fried, coated in a sticky, honey and garlic-sauce, and topped with even more flavor enhancement in the form of fried garlic and shallots along with some green scallions. You will undoubtedly come back.

2. Crispy Orange Chilli Wings

These incredibly flavourful crispy wings have a delectable sticky glaze, which uses hoisin sauce as the base and then adds delicious punches of orange and chilli.

3. Deep Fried Curry Wings

Juicy chicken wings an irresistibly crisp coating, Spicy and insanely good, these chicken wings have an extra kick, with a touch of heat. Heat scaredy-cats, be warned. Two ounces of hot pepper sauce leaves a lip-tingling heat after a bite of these chicken wings. Relief, however, is offered in the form of a sour cream dipping sauce.

All served with polish crispy garlic bread and gherkins.

CONTENDER NO 2: LITTLE URBAN COMPANY

1. Buffalo Giant Turkey Wings

No false promises here! These smoked baked Buffalo Turkey Wings are seriously Smokin. Tossed in a classic hot sauce for the ultimate buffalo wings! The combination of crispy wings, buttery spicy buffalo sauce, fresh celery and creamy blue chunks is a match made in heaven. With cream cheese served on the side, this dish creates the perfect flavor combination for double dipping.

2. PB&J Chicken Wings

These insanely delicious wings are oak slowed smoked, then grilled until super crispy and then coated in a sticky, sweet and spicy sauce of peanut butter, jam and sriracha. Topped with a peanut crumb, spring onions and sesame seeds.

CONTENDER NO 3: Limon Turkish

1. Sweet and Sour Wings

Deliciously sweet and earthy with sour kick. Sweet and sour are always a delicious pair. So the double whammy of flavor – maple syrup and lemon – is a combo not to be missed. It’s pure pleasure with an extra sprinkling of black sesame seeds for that extra crunch!

2. Pollo Al Wings

First, it’s a large confit wing (one where the drumstick and wing are connected) that’s transferred to the grill to get a fantastic char flavor before getting that paprika and garlic dry rub mix. It’s a chilli smoked, savory wing with burnt garlic all commingled is a classic take on a popular tapas dish called Pollo al Ajillo.

3. GGC Wings

The “sweet” of the name is honey; the “spicy” is green hot pepper sauce and jalapeno peppers. Combined, they create a BBQ wing that have it all – heat, sweet, char, stickiness, and tonnes of intense flavour – what more could a wing lover ask for?

Served with coleslaw in home made yogurt sauce with minted chickpeas and chilli sauce

CONTENDER NO 4: Veeru  Da Dhaba

1.  Tikka Tikka Wings

We adore the spice combination in these Indian-style wings. If you’re a lover of classic tandoori chicken, a flavourful favourite when it comes to Indian food, then these crispy BBQ chicken wings tandoori style, are exactly what your tastebuds are looking for— A tantalizing plateful of deliciously seasoned with a mix of tandoori spices, served on a bed of celery and paired with a tangy spicy tomato dip.

2. Secret Spice Wings

As it says in the title, this dish is a secret, all we know is that they’re deep-fried and tossed in Veeru’s special secret sauce.  While you’ll find an array of sauce options and heat levels, you’re getting the Veeru wings — a closely guarded secret recipe named for the owner that involves an addictive dry rub, a bath in the fryer, and a finishing flourish on the grill.

3. Buffalo Spicy Wings

Dried and tossed in a melted margarine and hot sauce, say hello to Veeru Da Dhaba’s mouth-tingling Buffalo wings. After they come out of the deep-fryer, the wings bathe in a mixture of a paprika-cayenne-spice explosion. Hello, spice. Hello, blue cheese dip. Hello, wing perfection. Order ‘em with blue cheese and let your tongue dance with as much of that heat and flavor as you can handle.

CONTENDER NO 5: Naughty Little Things

1. The Original NLT Wing

These Sticky Hoisin Chicken Wings are any chicken wing lover’s dream! They are coated in sweet hoisin sauce and BBQ’ed to perfection. Sweet, salty and sticky and insanely delicious with a light Asian barbecue flavour. Think Asian-inspired twist on classic buffalo wings.  Tossed in with peanuts and a sesame spring chilli salad – We aren’t sure who is the real hero in this dish – you decide!

2. Spicy Alabama Wings

Taking on an old Alabama tradition, imagine slow BBQ wings birds dunked in a mayo-based barbecue sauce. The tangy flavor is kind of like ranch dressing, and just as dangerously addictive. Then tossed with crispy onions, Monterey cheese and fresh herbs slathers its wings to make it even mouth-watering juicy and chick-chick delicious.
