Loaded Belgian anyone? Birmingham’s most talked about food festival is teaming up with The Superfry Guys to bring on an exclusive new menu to Taste and Liquor Jerk Festival.
Potato soldiers of crunchy goodness topped with exceptional Caribbean island flavours are the name of the game for this Saturday feast. Sure, you can get normal fries the traditional way, but when topping ’em with Jerk Chicken and Caribbean Curry Sauce is an option, you take it.
First what’s the difference from American Fries and Belgian Fries? The cooking process for a start, it’s very simple: Belgian fries are double-fried. First there is the cooking process, then they need to cool down and finally, just before serving, they are fried again to make them crispy and golden brown.
To be honest, they are damn-near perfect on their own, or with a dip and dab of ketchup, but they’re at their most gleefully gluttonous when tricked out with Slow Cooked Jerk Lamb, Minted Sauce and plenty of Dripping Jerk Gravy.
Belgian fries also get Vegan spin at The Jerk Festival—the starchy spuds are topped with Roasted Curry Vegetables cooked in Superfry Jerk Sauce and a heavy snowing of chilli flakes if you like things hot – totally optional.
Whether you want them salty or spicy, The Superfry Guys have promised to dish out more classic new dishes on the day but for now, here’s where to get the city’s most top-rate new Caribbean loaded fries first in Digbeth!
Taste and Liquor’s Jerk Festival is Birmingham’s first Caribbean Smoke and Fire Festival, at Quantum in Digbeth.
Doors open from 12pm. Family Friendly and Wheerchair accessible. Vegan, Vegetarian and Halal dishes (made on separate drum pans) also available, please ask the traders on the day. For more infomation click here.
