No We’re Not Jerkin’ You, Digbeth Gears Up To Host Birmingham’s First Jerk Festival

Jamaican Jerk Festival to Bring the Island’s Food and Music to Lower Trinity Street

Having set its sights on Quantum in Digbeth, Taste and Liquor have been supporting Jerk specialist street-food traders since their first launched in 2015, so they thought why not bring them all together to present an event like no other; an event to celebrate the Midlands finest BBQ-Drum-Pan masters with the launch of the regions first annual Jerk Festival. This Jerk-centric one-day festival will turn a little slice of Birmingham into a Jerk eating, music thumping and rum drinking weekend of epic proportion.

On Saturday 10 August, The Jerk Festival is inviting all to come and excite your pallet, explore spicy jerk cuisine and other favourites prepared by top street food chefs and culinary experts like Nyam Food, Mr Jerk, Tash + Dash, Jerk Haus, Ayaso Nice Food, Virgo Catering, Superfry Guys and Mr. Waffle (Desert).

Nowadays anything can be jerked-and smoking inside oversize oil drums converted into charcoal grills (aka “drum pans”) is more common than earth pits. Sometimes it’s wet and juicy (more of a marinade, with vinegar or soy sauce added) and sometimes it’s dry-rubbed and crisp. Either way, the food at The Jerk Festival will be glorious where dishes will be sweetly smoky and seasoned to its core, reflecting the skill and patience of their expert jerk masters.

The day will attract a mix of foodies, music lovers, dance aficionados and cultural enthusiasts in the most anticipated event of the year, plus there will be 80’s retro arcade games, The Shabbba Soundsytem featuring Birmingham top DJ’s playing out Reggae (Tropical Munch,) Hip Hop (Brunchin’ and Hip Hop) and R&B (R&B Brunch), Rum Bars, Jamaican Beer and much more –  click here to get your tickets.

Taste and Liquor’s Jerk Festival, Saturday 10 August at Quantumn in Digbeth, doors open from 12pm. Family Friendly and Wheerchair accessible. Vegan, Vegetarian and Halal dishes (made on separate drum pans) also available, please ask the traders on the day. For more infomation click here.
