From Modern-Fusion To The Traditional, We Have It All At Indian Street Feast Next Saturday

A meal at this trendy Digbeth spot is a fun way to spend any day out, whether you’re with friends or on a date, one must check out Taste and Liquor Indian Street Feast on Saturday 30 November at Quantum.

With Solihull Dabbawalla at the helm, we are delighted they’ll be responsible for bringing bang-on traditional flavours of India to the day. Having brought home-style cooking to the Taste and Liquor Indian Street Feast, Solihull Dabbawalla will be serving authentic vegetarian street-food dishes that she has enjoyed herself while growing up. Guests can pick from a vast menu featuring vegetarian dishes as well as a range of vegan options too.

Picks include Masala Dosa, made with crispy rice and lentil crepes-pancakes that are stuffed with a spiced potato filling. The dosa is made by soaking and grinding lentils and rice batter, then is fermented overnight to give the dosa its characteristic soft and crispy texture.

Gobi Manchurian – crispy coated fried cauliflower florets which are then tossed in a sweet and tangy Manchurian sauce, a popular Indo Chinese recipe that’s popular in Pakistan and India – and Bhatura with Chana  – a dish originated initially from eastern Uttar Pradesh in the northern part of the Indian Subcontinent. Now, this dish is famous invariably in the north while having a huge following in Punjab. It is a combination of spicy chickpeas masala made and bhatura, a fried bread made from maida.

Their live cooking will also present a superb Indo-Chinese Noddle’s – speciality, a must-try together with the Samosa Chaat, an extremely flavourful snack that is amongst some of the most popular street foods in India.

With a good selection of curry dishes, Solihull Dabbawalla makes a mean Chilli Paneer Curry, a generous and wholesome dish in a pot with green chillies, coriander and tomatoes, and handmade Indian cheese, while the Gobi Manchurian has a crispy crumbly texture that is so tasty at first, you will be running back for more after the first bite!

Follow it with a starter of Aloo Tikki Chaat – fried potato patties are topped with a tangy-sweet tamarind chutney and spicy green chutney along with curd yoghurt – popular street food of India and is loved by many. Punjabi Samosas, Panipuri, Indian Spring Rolls and Onion Bhajis’ will transport you to the busy loud streets of Mumbai, plus don’t forget to grab a cup of traditional Indian Chai, trust us this is a must-try!

The Solihull Dabbawalla excels on the unexpected, with some pleasant touches, though none of them fully accounting for the price compared to its rivals. With dishes starting from £2.00 to £4.00, be sure it well worth the money spend.
